(Disclosure - The review is written by my wife, the cream was for her, honest!)

I've used other Olay creams and tried this one for a change. Although the purple colour was a bit disconcerting at first, I found this cream thicker than normal and luxuriously rich to apply - it didn't disappear like some creams do, but it wasn't greasy either. It had a pleasant smell and thankfully didn't annoy my sensitive skin (not many Olay creams do). As for a 'mini face lift'? Can't say that I noticed any real difference in the morning compared with my usual Olay night cream. It's probably on a par with the rest of their range with regard to effectiveness and value for money, not stunningly better, not disappointingly worse. Who really knows what any of these creams do - the user doesn't tend to get into the chemistry of the thing - but it feels good to use something and this one is as good as the next.

I'm not overly convinced with this cream. It feels and smells lovely when you apply it on your face but my skin didn't absorb it like other creams.

I apply this in the evening just before going to bed and when I wake up I feel like I have a thin film over my skin. It really needs a good wash off before makeup can be applied - even after 12 hours of absorption time.

This may well be my skin type but I would consider myself to have fairly normal skin.

Advantages: Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-3 = an Amino-Peptide complex
Disadvantages: Spots due to the high content of Vaseline in the UK version.

As it's my habit, I had a look at the ingredients on both the UK and the US sites. Get ready to be shocked - or you should be => the composition of this cream is different between the UK and the American market! I am not going to bore you with many details and you can judge for yourselves by visiting the sites and compare the ingredients. For example, the cheap 'petrolatum' = our well-known vaseline which is in reality a cheap petrol derivative, is 12th in the UK list, but much much lower in the US list.

When I applied it, I got a velvety feeling on my skin's surface, but it was not getting absorbed properly. It's difficult to explain, but it felt as if a greasy film was left on top of my skin and that my skin was suffocating underneath. When I woke up it was fully absorbed (or left on my pillow?) but after a couple of nights I noticed small random red spots on my face in the morning. I treated them and I used this OLAY cream for about 2 months, till the pot emptied, without making the connection. You see, with all the make up we use, the hormonal imbalances and the pollution, I never thought it was the cream... I am absolutely sure now that the high levels of vaseline caused my irritations, and as soon as I finished the pot and stopped using this cream, the spots disappeared.

As a night cream, this was an unfamiliar product to the recipient, having only previously used day creams. After using the product for 3 days and noticing no difference, especially non akin to the magical effects described on the product description page, she wasn't motivated to continue using it.

In comparison to other Olay (day) creams the consistency is slightly unusual as other reviewers have noted, but she didn't find this off-putting and nor did she notice a synthetic fragrance, as some other people found. Admittedly the colour didn't seem appropriate for the product, but this wouldn't have proved a problem had the product actually provided the results specified, although perhaps you'd have to be a little naïve to believe that it was possible in the first place for any cream to offer such incredible results. Hence...nuls points.

Get those elbows at the ready because this cream has the potential to spark stampedes. Launched over here in May, it has already caused a stir in the United States. But does it work? One of the key ingredients in the Regenerist range are pentapeptides, which are meant to help maintain levels of collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm. According to Olay, this cream contains more pentapeptides than any other product in the range. So does this mean more wrinkle-reducing action? Possibly. A 1993 study suggests that pentapeptides may indeed help to maintain collagen. But it's the hyaluronic acid that may provide the real muscle. A naturally occurring skin molecule, it works by hydrating the top layer of skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines.

Olay's in-house studies suggest the cream boosts softness and elasticity. These tests appear scientifically sound, as they were double-blind and placebo-controlled. .

Feel-good factor Light texture, shiny finish, delicious smell.
